Pellegrini misses penalty as Roma trail behind in Europa League quarter-finals

This Thursday, the Roma visited Feyenoord, from the Netherlands, for the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Europa League and lost by 1 to 0. Wieffer scored the only goal of the match in the second stage. At the end of the first half, Lorenzo Pellegrini missed a penalty for the Italian team.

The return game between the two teams will be next Thursday, at 4 pm (Brasília time), at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.

Before the second game, however, Roma face Udinese, at home, on Sunday at 15:45, for the Italian Championship. Feyenoord now faces Cambuur, away from home, on Sunday at 11:45 am, for the Dutch Championship.

The game

Feyenoord started the match holding more possession of the ball, but could not take much danger to the opponent’s goal. Roma found themselves struggling as the Dutch team failed to create chances with the ball at their feet and evolved in the final half of the first half. However, the Italian team lost its best player at 23, when Dybala was injured and replaced by El Shaarawy.

Roma did not give up, however, and found a penalty in the 42nd minute, but Pellegrini stamped the post on the kick and wasted a golden chance. After 45 balanced and well-played minutes, the score was still stagnant at 0-0.

On the way back from the break, Feyenoord came back with everything and put pressure on the visiting team right away in the second stage. After much insistence, at eight minutes, the home team opened the scoring with Wieffer after a great move by Oussama Idrissi, who gave the decisive pass.

With the score unfavorable, Roma pressed again and tried to seek a tie, but, once again, Mourinho’s team stopped at the opposing goal in the best opportunity they had in the second half.
