UEFA has decided to create a “council of football savants” that will bring together 20 big names, including Zinedine Zidane, José Mourinho and Charles Ancelottiin charge of formulating proposals on the evolution of football, informed the European confederation this Friday.
Named ‘Uefa football board’, this structure was approved on Tuesday, in Lisbon, by the institution’s executive committee. It will have its first meeting on April 24 in Nyon, on the occasion of the Youth League final (the Youth Champions).
The group will have to analyze developments in terms of regulations and the organization of football, contributing with ideas that can be turned into “bills”.
It will be led by former Croatian midfielder Zvonimir Boban, UEFA’s director of professional football, with Italian Roberto Rosetti, responsible for refereeing at the organisation, as assistant.
In addition to Boban, Zidane, Mourinho and Ancelotti, the structure will feature other prominent names such as the Dutchman Ronald Koeman, the Danish Michael Laudrup, the Czech Petr Cech, the Germans Jürgen Klinsmann, Rudi Völler and Philipp Lahm, the Portuguese Luis Figo, the Italians Paolo Maldini and Fabio Capello and the Englishman Gareth Southgate.
