L’Equipe: Lionel Messi close to leaving PSG due to 75% pay cut
Argentine striker Lionel Messi is close to leaving Paris Saint-Germain. The reason for the possible transfer has become known to L’Equipe.
According to a source, Messi will leave the French club at the end of the season, as he does not intend to agree to the 75% salary cut offered by the club. The most likely option remains the return of the 35-year-old player to Barcelona.
Earlier it was reported that the Spanish club wants to conclude a contract with the striker for a year with the option of extending for one season. The salary in accordance with the agreement will be six to seven million euros per year.
Messi signed an agreement with PSG in August 2021. Prior to that, he spent his entire career playing for Barcelona, in which he won the Spanish championship ten times and won the Champions League four times. The striker’s current contract with the French club runs until June 2023 with the option of a one-season extension.
