In search of a new goalkeeper for next season, Villarreal is interested in having one of the executioners of the Brazilian Team in the last World Cup. This is Dominik Livakovic, Croatia’s number 1 in the quarterfinal match.
The position is a priority in the search for reinforcements for the Spanish club, as the holder is currently the 40-year-old veteran Pepe Reina. With the departure of goalkeeper Rulli to Ajax, coach Quique Setién asked Villarreal’s board to hire a new name, as the team’s goal is to strengthen the squad and fight for a place in the next Champions League.

According to the newspaper Sport, Livakovich was the target chosen to fill that gap. Despite being the main option for the goal of the Croatian national team, the 28-year-old athlete has never played outside local football, defending his current team, Dinamo Zagreb, since 2015.
Despite this, Livakovic has experience in continental competitions and has already made great performances in World Cup duels. In the 2022 edition, in Qatar, the Croatian saved penalties and closed the goal in the clashes against Japan, in the round of 16, and Brazil, in the quarterfinals. On both occasions, the goalkeeper won the man of the match award.

Against Tite’s men, Livakovic saved the first kick, from Rodrygo. In addition to being decisive on penalties, he also made a great performance during the 90 minutes of the match, only being leaked in overtime after a great move by Neymar.
