Euskaltel-Euskadi will participate in the Itzulia Basque Country 2023 with a team made up of Mikel Bizkarra, Joan Bou, Carlos Canal, Asier Etxeberria, Unai Iribar, Txomin Juaristi and Gotzon Martín, as announced by the Basque squad this Tuesday. The sports director Jorge Azanza has chosen these seven cyclists for Itzulia, which starts next Monday, April 3and what is he big goal of the season for Euskaltel-Euskadi, after not having been invited to the next Tour of Spain.
In this way, the Euskaltel-Euskadi has presented in Bilbao the group of runners with which it will compete in the test, “the most exciting race of the season” for the group that is under the command of Azanza. At the event, which took place at the Guggenheim Museum, the president of the Euskaltel company, Xabier Iturbe, wanted to “emphasize” the team’s DNA, “which already characterizes it from the quarry: a DNA made up of the doses of passion and combativeness, of always being in the fight, and never giving up”, he highlighted.
For his part, Jon Ander de las Fuentes, director of Euskaltel, stressed that Itzulia is the “big goal this season” for the team, “in the year of cycling par excellence”, in which the Tour de France will celebrate its first three stages on Basque roads, “and the Itzulia will be our txiki Tour”.
In parallel, it has also been revealed the new shirt of the ‘Orange Tide’, designed by the firm Kukuxumuxu, with the goat ‘Beelorzia’ as the protagonist. As announced at the event, the shirt will be distributed at all stage arrivals (Labastida, Leitza, Villabona, Santurtzi, Amorebieta-Etxano and Eibar), and also on the team bus, at the start, and at the “curva orange” of the final stage of Eibar.
