Nagelsmann arrived at Bayern Munchen in mid-2021, coming from RB Leipzig, and had a bond with the Bavarian club until June 2026.
On Thursday, several German press outlets, including the newspaper Bild and the magazine Kickerreported the unexpected resignation of the coach and pointed Tuchel, formerly of Chelsea, as a likely successor.
Nagelsmann, who is 35 and considered a “wunderkind boy”, joined Bayern Munich as a replacement for Hansi Flick, who left the club to take over the Germany national team.
Tuchel should lead the team’s first training session next Monday. Several of its main players will not be in the CT of Säbener Strasse because they are concentrated with their selections.
“It’s the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make in my career as sporting director at Bayern. I’m sorry for this break, but after an analysis of the team’s sporting evolution, more specifically since January, we’ve decided to release Julian from his duties,” commented Hasan Salihamidzic, quoted in the Bayern Munich statement.
Former goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, current president of the club, considered that the “quality” of the team “is less and less visible” in recent times.
Tuchel (49 years old) will now have a new experience in a big European, after having managed Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.
With the “Blues”, he won the European Champions League in 2021, after joining the club in January of that year, with the season already underway. The goal now will be to repeat the feat in Munich. He has been without a club since he was sacked by Chelsea in September last year.
With his signing, the Bayern Munich board hopes to find an attractive game again, betting on a coach with a reputation as a tireless worker and with a strong personality.
It remains to be seen what will be the tune with the club’s directors in the near future, taking into account that, in the past, Tuchel had friction in some clubs where he went, as happened at Paris Saint-Germain with the then sporting director, the Brazilian Leonardo .
