The Russian Ice Hockey Federation made a statement about the extension of IIHF sanctions

The FHR said that the removal of the Russian IIHF team from tournaments is not constructive

The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR) has made a statement about the extension of sanctions by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). It is available on the organization’s website.

“The removal of the Russian national team for the far-fetched reason of the “safety of the participants” is a decision that is neither constructive nor beneficial for world hockey,” the FHR said. They stressed that they will continue to make every possible effort to return the national teams to international tournaments.

Earlier, on March 22, the IIHF Council extended the suspension of the national teams of Russia and Belarus from tournaments. The organization said that the return of teams to the world stage is not safe. It is noted that the teams will not take part in all tournaments under the auspices of the organization until the end of the 2023/2024 season.

On February 28, 2022, the IIHF suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in competitions under its auspices. Also, Russia was deprived of the right to host the 2023 World Cup and the youth championship of the planet.
