Russian Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin scored in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season match against the Columbus Blue Jackets. This is reported by the correspondent of “Lenta.ru”.

The captain of the capital club was marked by an abandoned puck and brought the total number of his goals to 820. Thus, he reduced the gap to 74 goals behind the Canadian Wayne Gretzky, who occupies the first line in the list of the best snipers in the NHL championships in history (894 abandoned washers). Ovechkin was recognized as the second star of the match.

In the same match, which ended in a 7-6 overtime victory for Columbus, the Russian broke another Gretzky record, which had held for 32 years. The 37-year-old forward hit 40 goals in a season for the 13th time in his career. The Canadian managed to do it 12 times.

Ovechkin has been playing in the NHL since 2005. He spent all seasons in North America with Washington. Together with the club, the hockey player won the Stanley Cup in 2018.
