“Match TV”: the Russian team will play in the championship of the Central Asian Football Association
The Russian national football team will perform at the first international tournament after being suspended by the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). This was reported to Match TV by the press secretary of the Football Federation of Tajikistan Faridun Saliev.
“The Russian team will take part in the first championship of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) with the participation of men’s national teams, which will be held from June 9 to 21 this year,” he said. As it became known, all six members of the association, namely Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, will play at the tournament. In addition, another Asian team will be invited to participate.
In March, the Russian team will play two friendly matches. On March 23, Tehran will host a game against Iran. On March 26, the national team will host the Iraqi team in St. Petersburg.
On February 28, 2022, FIFA and UEFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Domestic clubs do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team was deprived of the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
