Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates Team) won the seventh stage of the Paris-Nice 2023 which was held this Saturday March 11 between Nice and Col de la Couillole (142.9 km) and reinforced its leadership at the head of the general classification. Furthermore, he harvested his second stage win in this edition of the French race.

From the beginning there were movements in the peloton. Kobe Goosens (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty) attacked first, and with him formed the breakaway of the day with these other 18 cyclists: Lilian Calmejane eta Kobe Goosens (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty), Javier Romo (Astana), Nils Politt (Bora -Hansgrohe), Larry Warbasse and Dorian Gordon (Ag2R-Citröen), Florian Senechal and Remi Cavagna (Soudal-Quick-Step), Brent Van Moer, Harrison Sweeny and Pascal Eenkhoorn (Lotto Dstny), Hugo Houle (Israel-Premier Tech) , Jeremy Cabot (Total Energies), Soren Kragh Andersen (Alpecin Deceuninck), Kelland O’Brien and Lucas Hamilton (Jayco Alula), Josh Tarling (Ineos Grenadiers), Gregor Muhlberger (Movistar) and David De la Cruz (Astana).

In the descent of the Col du Chauteau Tarling was left behind and the breakaway was left in 18 units. With 38 kilometers to go De la Cruz, Goosens, Sweeny and Romo opened up a bit of a gap, but the group came together again and led a group of 17 riders. However, 12 kilometers later, the breakaway dissolved and Politt, Eenkhoorn, Cabot, Goosens and Romo remained at the head of the race.

At the beginning of the ascent to the Col de la Couillole, the last port of the stage, the Jumbo Visma quickened the pace of the peloton. Romo and Goosens remained in the lead, but were absorbed by the main group with 9 kilometers to go.

With the grouped squad, attacked Tadej Pogacar with six kilometers to go and opened a hole. Behind, Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo Visma) and David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) jumped, and although it cost them, they were able to catch up with the Slovenian. After Gaudu attacked, Pogacar followed and Vingegaard stayed behind. However, in the last kilometer, Vingegaard made contact with Pogacar and Gaudu, attacked, but Pogacar responded and none could follow in his wake. The Slovenian won the stage victory, Gaudu was second to 2 seconds and Vingegaard third to 6 seconds.
