Iraqi team confirms friendly match against Russia

The Iraq national team confirmed the match with the Russian team on March 26 in St. Petersburg

The Iraqi national team confirmed the holding of a friendly match with the Russian team. The words of the press secretary of the Arab team, Mohammed Imad, are quoted by Sport24.

“The match between the national teams of Russia and Iraq will take place on March 26 in St. Petersburg,” Imad said. He noted that the Iraqi team had long wanted to play with the Russians, so he did not see any problems in holding the meeting on the territory of Russia.

Earlier, the expanded composition of the Russian team for the training camp in March was published. It included players from foreign clubs Alexey Miranchuk, who plays for Torino, and Alexander Golovin, who plays for Monaco.

It is expected that in March the Russians will play two international matches. In addition to the match with Iraq, the national team must play with the team of Iran. The match is scheduled for March 23 and will be held in Tehran.

On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Domestic teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team was deprived of the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
