One of the great hopes for Paris Saint-Germain to stay alive in the Champions League is Lionel Messi. The star gave an interview to the club’s TV this Monday and spoke about next Wednesday’s clash against Bayern Munich, for the return of the round of 16. In the first leg, the Parisian team lost 1-0 at home.
However, he spoke about another teammate who has stood out as much as he has this season, most notably in the Qatar World Cup final between Argentina and France last December.
“It really was a breath-taking final – and the setting of the match was completely insane. Kylian (Mbappé) scored three incredible goals in a final! Him not being champion after that was completely crazy, but he also won (the title) and knows what it’s like to be a world champion”, began the Argentine number 10.
“But yes, it was a great final for the world of football. Now, it’s true that it’s nice to be able to play on the same team as him and I hope we can do great things here in Paris.”
In addition to talking more about winning the World Cup, which he characterized as a “life dream” and which “will forever be engraved in the memory”, Messi projected the return of the Champions League round of 16, which will take place after the consecutive victories over Olympique and Nantes for the French Championship.
“We are fighting for the (Ligue 1) title. I think that in the last game against Marseille we improved, and the team got stronger with these victories. So we will try to make things work and give our all to try to reverse the situation against Bayern and qualify. That’s everyone’s goal,” he said on the subject.
“It’s important to go into the game with that mentality. Now we’re going to Munich, where we’ll play a very close, very difficult match, like the first one. Everything will be decided down to the last detail, not least because it’s very difficult to win in this stadium. But I think that, if If we do things well, we can change the situation. We want to continue our path in the Champions League. And that’s what we’re going to try to do”, he concluded.
PSG visit Bayern Munich this Wednesday, starting at 5 pm (Brasília time), for the second leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League. On the first leg, at Parque dos Príncipes, Coman secured a 1-0 advantage on the scoreboard.
