The International Gymnastics Federation suspended Irina Viner for two years due to the scandal at the Olympics
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has suspended the president of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation, Irina Viner, for two years. This was reported on the website of the organization.
The reason for the sanctions was the scandal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, where Viner spoke insultingly about the refereeing of the competition. In addition, Viner was suspended amid the fact that she withdrew the candidacy of the Russian woman Natalya Kuzmina from the elections to the FIG technical committee in 2021. The FIG called Wiener’s actions violating the rules of the organization.
In September 2021, Viner withdrew Kuzmina’s candidacy from the election of the head of the FIG technical committee, emphasizing that “at the Olympics, she did nasty things.” The reason was the refereeing of the Russian woman at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, where the winner in the individual all-around was the Israeli Lina Ashram, who beat the Russian woman Dina Averina. At the same time, the representative of Israel dropped the object during the last speech.
The result caused a wide public outcry in Russia. Then Wiener accused the judges of the competition of bias.
