The owner of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem)Óscar Vera Gargurevich indicated this Monday, March 6, that the blockades that caused problems for mining companies in the southern region would have been reduced. Along these lines, he stated that the Las Bambas mine would reactivate its operations in the following days.

“Regarding Las Bambas, the information we handle is that practically all the roads are already cleared and It is likely that operations will be reactivated in the coming days”, he pointed out to RPP.

As recalled, the mining company MMG Las Bambas halted its activities and copper production since Wednesday, February 1, due to roadblocks resulting from the demonstrations. Thus, it is carrying out care and maintenance operations.

Previously, in 2021 and April 2022, the mine also stopped its movement due to blockades in Apurímac and Cusco. Also, according to the report of the Ministry of Energy and Minesfrom January to November 2022, the company made investments in its operation for 192 million 697 thousand dollars, which made it the sixth mining company with the highest investment in Peru.
