National Olympic Committees of Africa called for the admission of Russians to the 2024 Games
Members of the executive committee of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) supported the admission of Russian athletes to the 2024 Summer Olympics. It is reported by France Press.
“It is about allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in complete neutrality without any signs of identity,” ANOCA said. It is noted that the members of the executive committee adopted this decision unanimously.
On February 20, it was reported that about 30 countries sent a letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) against the return of Russian athletes to competitions. It was clarified that the position on this issue would not change until the criteria for the neutrality of athletes for participation in tournaments were established.
On January 25, the IOC announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It was noted that only athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to compete in international tournaments.
