Zhurova said that Canada wants to destroy the interaction between the state and sports in Russia
State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova responded to the words of the head of the Olympic Committee (NOC) of Canada, David Shoemaker, who proposed to allow Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments on strict conditions. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
Zhurova said that Canadians want to destroy the interaction between the state and sports in Russia, built over the years. “This is all for the sake of information pressure on Russia,” she considered.
February 26 Shoemaker in an interview with CBC Sports said that at the moment the Canadian organization is in favor of maintaining sanctions for athletes from Russia and Belarus. In his opinion, an exception can be made only for athletes who will speak out about the policies of their states.
At the end of January, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that they were considering the possibility of admitting Russians to the 2024 Games in a neutral status. Competitions in Paris should be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
