Ukraine boycotts the 2023 World Boxing Championship because of the participation of Russians with a flag in it
Ukraine joined the boycott of the 2023 World Boxing Championship due to the participation of Russian athletes with a flag and an anthem. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the National public television and radio company of the country.
The vice-president of the organization, Oleg Ilchenko, said that representatives of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine do not perform where Russians are present. “Our answer is clear,” he stressed.
Earlier it became known that several European countries, including Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom, as well as the United States and Canada, decided to skip the tournament. The American team said that the participation of Russians in the World Cup would violate the sanctions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the principles of fair play.
On October 5, the International Boxing Association (IBA) admitted boxers from Russia and Belarus to international competitions under the auspices of the organization. Athletes are allowed to compete under national flags, and if they win, the national anthem will be played.
