ARC 2023 at IFEMA Madrid has opened its doors this Wednesday to professionals and journalists. This year’s edition features a work in 50th anniversary tribute of the death of Pablo Picasso. Its author, Eugenio Merino, is known for his sculpture of Frank inside a fridge. With this figure, they criticize the use of Picasso’s image with commercial and tourist purposes.
“Taking advantage of the anniversary of Picasso’s death, it is a way of remembering how this figure continues to function as a tourist attraction, bringing gentrification to the city,” the gallery owner explained to Europa Press. Miguel Angel Sanchez.
The price of ‘Picasso died here’ made of latex and resides is 45,000 euros. It shows the figure of Picasso lying down in a striped shirt and white pants, with his hands superimposed. At the back of the gallery where it is located, there is a painting by the artist Julio Anaya imitating some of the most recognizable cubist figures of the painter from Malaga.
The ADN stand is completed with a death mask of lorca, with a price of 8,000 euros. It is not the only place where Picasso’s anniversary has been taken into account: there are works such as a lithograph in the gallery William of Osma‘Deux femmes neus’, for a price of 350,000 euros.
