Deputies of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg adopted as a basis a bill that allows changing the boundaries of the zones of protection of cultural heritage objects for the implementation of social and infrastructure projects.

As Konstantin Sukhenko, representative of the governor of St. Petersburg in the legislative assembly, explained during the meeting, the bill passed the state historical and cultural expertise, received the approval of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, and also passed the public discussion procedure.

“The draft law takes into account the building parameters of such socially significant facilities in St. Petersburg as preschool institutions, healthcare, physical culture and sports facilities, and strategic transport infrastructure facilities. In particular, this is the passenger terminal of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway, Bolshoy Smolensky Bridge, a section of the high-speed latitudinal highway. This is a law that ensures the development of St. Petersburg,” Sukhenko said.

Amendments to this document provide, in particular, for protection against demolition of cottages in the Narva Zastava area – the conservation status of these buildings is expected to be extended until 2029.

As RIA Novosti notes, citing media information, about 200 buildings located in the historical development zone may be demolished in St. Petersburg for the sake of infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Great Smolensky Bridge across the Neva and the terminal of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway line.
