WADA appeals to CAS against acquittal in Valieva case

WADA appeals to CAS against RUSADA’s decision to find Valieva not guilty of doping

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision of the disciplinary committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) to find figure skater Kamila Valieva not guilty of an anti-doping rule violation. This was reported on the website of the organization.

WADA called RUSADA’s conclusions incorrect and exercised the right to file a claim under the terms of the World Anti-Doping Code. The Organization called for the athlete to be disqualified for four years from the date of the decision, to cancel her results starting from December 25, 2021, and to deprive her of all medals and prize money.

On January 13, RUSADA informed WADA that Valieva was not at fault for the anti-doping rule violation. At the same time, the skater was deprived of the gold of the Russian Championship-2022. WADA was unhappy with the decision.

At the 2022 Olympics, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to a doping scandal with her participation. In the sample of the skater from December 2021, traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
