The route of the super-G on the slope in Courchevel was very winding and demanding, at times it surprised the competitors. Maryna Gąsienica-Daniel rode most of the route very well. She did great in the upper section. Closer to the finish line she had problems from which she luckily saved herself. The final position in the super-G gives her hope for an attack in the slalom, thanks to which she should move up in the alpine combined classification.

Maryna handled the super-giant

For Maryna Gąsienica-Daniel, the event in Courchevel Meribel is the first world championship in her career. She coped with the pressure of a debutante. The first part of the route went flawlessly, although she did not have the best pace. The second sector also passed smoothly, gained speed. At the end of the route, she came across an unevenness in the sensitive left corner, where a large part of the competitors was floating. This knocked her out of her rhythm a bit, but she completed her run calmly.

The leader of the alpine combined after the Super G is Federica Brignone, who had a brilliant run. She achieved the best time in all three sectors and had as much as 0.9 seconds at the finish line. advantage over the Austrian Ramona Siebenhofer, who was leading until her passage. The closest Italians are Ragnhild Mowinckel and Lara Gut-Behrami. The Norwegian and the Swiss are ex aequo second in the super-G with a loss of 0.71 seconds. to the leader.

Sixth place went to Mikaela Shiffrin. Although she finished the super-G with a loss of almost a second to Brignone, she can be hellishly dangerous in slalom. So was Wendy Holdener from Switzerland, second in the general classification of the World Cup in slalom (15th place in the super-G, 1.69 seconds behind).

Gąsienica-Daniel took the 17th place and is 1.75 seconds behind Brignone. He has a chance to advance to the top ten. Slovenian Ilka Stuhec, who is in 10th position, is less than half a second behind.

Five competitors did not finish the super-G. Very soon, one of the main candidates for the medal, Marta Bassino, said goodbye to the competition. After the first sector she had one of the best times, but she got surprised in a shaded section and fell off the course.

At 14:30 there will be a slalom, the second alpine combined event.
