Skra Bechatw is having one of the worst seasons in the history of the club. Volleyball players from Bełchatów are currently 11th in the PlusLiga table and have almost no chance of advancing to the play-offs. Sunday’s defeat against Ślepsk Suwałki, one of the direct rivals for the top eight, had a significant impact on this. It was also a debut. However, the Italian did not do a miracle and Skra lost the sixth match in a row.

Sunday’s meeting was extremely important for both teams. Both Ślepsk Malow Suwałki and PGE Skra Bełchatów are in the lower part of the table, but still have a chance to play in the play-offs. This match determined which of the teams would get closer to the top eight, which would play for medals.

The duel was disastrous for the guests from Bełchatów. Although they played better than in the last matches, it was not enough to win even a set in Suwałki. They were the closest in the second game, which was decided by advantage. Ultimately, Ślepsk won 3:0 and it was he who kept the chance to fight for promotion to the top eight. This is the sixth loss in a row in the league for Skra. A large part of them were with rivals for play-offs. At this point, the titled club loses eight points to eighth Stal Nysa, and Ślepsk only two.

So it’s getting closer to the end of an era. Skra is a dominator of Polish volleyball, who won the national championship nine times in the 21st century (the last one in the 2017/2018 season). Failure to advance to the play-offs would be a disaster and the end of a 21-year winning streak. The last time the club finished outside the play-offs was in the 1999/2000 season, when it was relegated to the second division. After returning to the top flight, the lowest position was 6th in 2003 and 2019.
