O Arsenal visited Everton this Saturday morning at Goodison Park, but ended up disappointing his fans. The team was defeated by 1-0, with a goal by Tarkowski, and met its second setback in this edition of the English Championship.
Even with the result, the London team remains in the lead of the competition, with 50 points. However, you can see the Manchester City shorten the distance to two points this Sunday, when Pep Guardiola’s men face Tottenham, at 1:30 pm (BrasÃlia time).
Everton, on the other hand, in the debut of their new coach, Sean Dyche, gained a boost of energy with a good performance against the absolute leader of the tournament. The team, thus, finally left the relegation zone and now occupies the 17th place, with 18 points.
On Arsenal’s side, Arteta also promoted the first game of the Italian-Brazilian Jorginho, recently signed from Chelsea. The midfielder, however, was discreet on the pitch.
Arsenal will seek rehabilitation in the Premier League as early as next Saturday, against eighth-placed Brentford. The game is scheduled for noon at the Emirates Stadium.
How was the game?
Who started the match with danger, surprisingly, was Everton. At eight minutes, Calvert-Lewin took advantage of the opportunity inside the area and tried to finish, but was stopped at the exact moment by Ramsdale, who threw himself on the ball to prevent the goal.
Arsenal only responded after 10′, when Saka regained possession and rolled to Partey, who took a chance from outside the area and saw Pickford catch without difficulty. At 29 minutes, the Gunners had another opportunity with Nketiah, who received from Saka, went through the marking, but knocked out.
Everton narrowly missed opening the scoring at 32′. Onana stole the ball in the middle of the field, reached the bottom line and launched it into the small area, but Calvert-Lewin did not reach it and missed the chance to complete it for the empty net.
At 38′, then, it was Saka’s turn to almost score. The attacker kicked from outside the area and the ball went past the goalkeeper Pickford, but Coady appeared and prevented it from entering, almost on top of the line.
On the way back from the break, Everton were again the first to scare. With less than a minute on the clock, the Toffees forced goalkeeper Ramsdale to make a great save, in a shot by Ghana Gueye.
Arsenal also reached the 13th minute, when Nketiah launched a counterattack, passed two markers and crossed for Odegaard, who ended up sending it over. The home team, therefore, opened the scoring soon after, at 14′. In a corner kick, Tarkowski headed it in and, even though he was well marked, managed to push it into the back of the goal and put his team in front.
The visitors, then, sent themselves to the attack, but failed to reach a tie. Trossard risked a firm beat at 32′, but Pickford made a great save. Zinchenko also tried in the 43rd minute, with a kick from outside the area, but the ball went over the opposing goal.
