In Estonia, called the boycott of the 2024 Olympics due to the admission of Russians as an extreme option
The President of the Estonian Olympic Committee (EOC) Urmas Sõyrumaa spoke about a possible boycott by the national team of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris if Russians and Belarusians are allowed to compete. It is reported by Err.ee.
He called such a decision an extreme option, as it would harm the Estonian athletes. “If some part of the world arranges a boycott and it has real power, we will not go either. But, as I said, we will do everything so that our athletes do not have to suffer, ”Syyrumaa clarified the position of the country.
Earlier, the head of the EOC opposed the boycott of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris if Russians participate in them. “Boycotts have never led to anything,” the organization’s president said.
On February 3, Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland Pavel Yablonsky called for a boycott of the 2024 Olympics if Russians were admitted. According to the Polish side, 40 countries oppose the participation of Russians in tournaments.
On January 25, the IOC announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It was noted that athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will have a chance to get permission to compete in international tournaments.
