Szymon Marciniak will break the league record on Saturday. Amazing feat

This weekend, Szymon Marciniak is to return to refereeing in the Ekstraklasa after the World Cup, in which the Polish referee, together with assistants Paweł Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz, as well as VAR referee Tomasz Kwiatkowski, led the final between Argentina and France (3: 3, penalties 4: 2 ).

In the meantime, however, Marciniak was not idle – he led matches in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Cyprus. Now he returns to his home games, and specifically he was appointed to referee the match in Częstochowa, in which Raków will host Piast Gliwice (Saturday, 15:00).

Szymon Marciniak will become the Ekstraklasa record holder on Saturday

According to the Ekstrastats portal, leading the Raków – Piast match, Szymon Marciniak may become the referee’s record holder in the Ekstraklasa in the number of matches conducted. Currently, the 42-year-old judge has 338 matches on his account, while Saturday’s clash in Częstochowa will be his 339th in the Polish top class.

In this way, Marciniak will overtake the current record holder Paweł Gil, who ended his refereeing career a year and a half ago and now works at UEFA as one of the persons responsible for the VAR project.

This record Szymon Marciniak will still have to screw up solidly to maintain the title of record holder. All because behind his back, two years younger Paweł Raczkowski has 291 matches on his account. 267 matches in the Ekstraklasa were refereed by Daniel Stefański, and only four matches less by Bartosz Frankowski and Tomasz Musiał.
