He lived in Madonna’s villa and founded a sex cult. Netflix will show a movie about the world’s richest dog

The story of Gunther the dog sounds like material for a movie, so it should come as no surprise that Netflix is interested in the case. The streaming platform has released a documentary dedicated to him. However, there were voices of criticism – according to some, too many untrue threads were introduced into the already unbelievable story.

Where did the dog’s fortune come from?

Gunther was the beloved pet of Countess Carlotta von Liebenstein, a wealthy German heiress. When she died, she had no living relatives, so she bequeathed her fortune worth 152 million marks to her dog in her will. The tradition is followed to this day – now the estate is owned by his descendant, Gunther VI. Behind the rather funny plot, however, there is a moving story – Liebenstein had a son, also named Gunther, but she lost him as a result of suicide, which he committed at the age of 26. Maurizio Mian took care of the animal named after the tragic event. That’s what the story says, but it’s not entirely true. The countess most likely never existed. Mian’s family made up a story with a fortune-inheriting dog to avoid paying taxes on their pharmaceutical empire and a way to get media attention.

In the background, a sect, sex scandals and… a pop star villa

This was not the only foul play on Mian’s part. The man recruited people who created a kind of cult around the dog under the pretext of creating a band in honor of the deceased Gunther (the one who committed suicide and probably never existed). When Gunther “purchased” Madonna’s Miami mansion in 2000, its owner invited attractive people to live in the villa for free. He encouraged them to participate in orgies and suggested how they should behave. Soon the residents realized that their sexual exploits were being recorded and they were taking part in an immoral experiment.

Mian claimed that his goal was to find the “key to happiness” and create a superhuman race that would be as happy as possible. Not everyone feels like a victim.

I wanted to be a tick on that dog’s ass for the rest of my life.

– claims one of Gunther’s companions in the document. Caregivers are responsible for organizing their free time, e.g. trips to the Bahamas or Milan, private jet flights or training. One of the main overseers of the estate is Carla Riccitelli, who has been dealing with “Gunthers” for 30 years. On behalf of the current dog, he manages sports teams and even trades real estate. The house after Madonna was put up for sale last year. The asking price was $31.75 million. The dog lived in the star’s bedroom in a custom-made Italian bed. Currently, his fortune is valued at approx. USD 500 million, and includes, among others: a villa in Tuscany or a yacht with a crew of 27 and a private chef.
