The prosecutor’s office asked to sentence Veronika Belotserkovsky (included in the register of foreign agents) to nine years in prison in the case of “fakes” about the Russian Armed Forces. It is reported by RBC with reference to the press service of the Basmanny Court of Moscow.
“The prosecutor asked for nine years,” the court said.
The Investigative Committee opened the case against Belotserkovskaya in March last year. She is accused under paragraph “d” part 2 of Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code (public distribution of fakes about the actions of the Russian military motivated by political hatred or enmity). The maximum penalty under this article is imprisonment for up to 15 years.
The blogger, according to the investigation, spread “false information about the use of the Russian Armed Forces to destroy cities and the civilian population of Ukraine, including children” in her posts on the social network during a special operation.
The UK indicated that Belotserkovskaya was abroad. In May, she was put on the wanted list and arrested in absentia. In June, the Moscow Basmanny Court seized the blogger’s property in Russia.
The announcement of the verdict in the Belotserkovskaya case is scheduled for Monday, February 6.
