Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia called on the IOC to prevent Russia from participating in the 2024 Olympics
The ministers of sports of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia made a statement on the admission of Russia to international tournaments. It is available on the website of the Lithuanian Office.
Poland and the Baltic states have called on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In their opinion, sport is part of the political picture of the world, so even greater sanctions should be imposed on Russian sport.
On January 25, the IOC announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It was noted that only athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to compete in international tournaments. After criticism from Ukraine and the Baltic states, the IOC said a final decision had not yet been made.
The Olympic Games are to be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
