Jorginho leaves Chelsea for London rivals and signs with Arsenal

On the last day of the European transfer window, Arsenal hired midfielder Jorginho, coming from rival Chelsea. The Italian-Brazilian player was announced this Tuesday and signed a bond with the Gunners until 2024.

Chelsea were paid around £12m for Jorginho, who had just six months left on his contract with the Blues.

Jorginho arrived at Chelsea in 2018 after excelling at Napoli and being bought for around £50m. The athlete had the contract disputed by the Manchester CItybut preferred to join the club managed by Mauricio Sarri at the time, with whom he had worked in Italian football.

Wearing the colors of BluesJorginho won the Champions Leaguea Europa League and the Super Cup, in addition to being elected the best player on the European continent by UEFA in 2021. There were 213 matches for Chelsea, where he scored 29 goals and provided nine assists.

In the current season, Chelsea occupies the tenth position of Premier League and won just one win in the last five games. The squad had a clear drop in performance and Jorginho has not been playing well, despite being an absolute starter.

Arsenal’s interest in the Italian-Brazilian came after rejection of the proposal of more than 60 million pounds by Moisés Caicedo, from Brighton. Furthermore, the Gunners lost reserve midfielder Mohamed Elneny to injury and loaned youngster Sambi Lokonga to Crystal Palace.

Therefore, Jorginho arrives at Arsenal to compete with Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka in the starting lineup. Mikel Arteta’s men are the isolated leaders of the English Championship, with 50 points added.
