Mitoma decides and Liverpool are knocked out of the FA Cup by Brighton

A great goal from Japan’s Kaoru Mitoma in the second half added time gave Brighton victory over Liverpool by 2-1 and qualification for the round of 16 of the FA Cup.

Liverpool, current champions of the competition, are still in a negative moment and missed their most tangible chance of winning the season, after another defeat.

Coach Jurgen Klopp’s team took the lead in the 30th minute with Harvey Elliott on the counterattack, but before the break (39′), in a barely clear corner, Lewis Dunk tied the game by deflecting a shot by Tariq Pamptey, catching the goalkeeper Alisson on the foot.

When it looked like the duel would end in a draw, Brighton reached the winning goal with Mitoma (90’+2), which he received from Pervis Estupiñán and got rid of Joe Gomez’s marking before scoring.

Author of six goals and two decisive passes in the last 11 games, the Japanese attacking midfielder is the symbol of Brighton’s recovery this season, after the departure of coach Graham Potter to Chelsea and the arrival of Roberto de Zerbi.
