Spain striker Brahim Díaz said he “can’t imagine a World Cup without Spain” in a week in which his team faces Greece and Sweden, two vital games to get a direct spot for the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
“I can’t imagine a World Cup without Spain. There are two finals coming and two that need to be won,” Brahim said Tuesday at a news conference after the national team’s training session in Las Rozas, near Madrid.
Spain face the Greeks in Athens on Thursday, and then face the Swedes in Seville, in the last two rounds of Group B of the European Qualifiers, in which it is absolutely necessary to win so as not to depend on other results.
“You have to win yes or yes,” insisted the Milan striker, who admitted to talking to Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic, his Italian team-mate, about Sunday’s important duel.
“When we’re there (in Milan) we focus on the club, but we already know what Zlatan is like, they always miss something,” Brahim said with a smile.
“Just kidding, we’re just talking about what can happen and that it’s an important game for us and for them,” said the Spanish striker, who is happy to have been called up for the first time by coach Luis Enrique Martínez. “Being here is a dream come true”, he concluded.
The Spaniards are second in the group with 13 points, two less than leaders Sweden, and four more than the Greeks, who are third.
