Volkanovski says defeating Makhachev will make him one of MMA’s greatest fighters
Australian mixed martial arts fighter (MMA) Alexander Volkanovski appreciated the level of performances of the Russian Islam Makhachev before their fight. His words are quoted by the official website of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
“It’s a real challenge. But it is clear what threats lurk in his game. Let’s be honest, he didn’t fight the best guys,” Volkanovski said. He also called Makhachev an excellent fighter and added that a victory over the Russian would make him one of the greatest representatives of MMA.

Makhachev and Volkanovski will fight at UFC 284. The lightweight fight will take place in Australia on the night of February 12, 2023. Thus, featherweight Volkanovski, who currently leads the ranking of the best fighters in the promotion, will change category and will claim the title of champion.
