Hungarian bandy players removed from World Cup on suspicion of drug use

The Hungarian youth national bandy team has been withdrawn from the 2023 World Championship. This was reported on the website of the International Bandy Federation (FIB).

The team was disqualified because one or more players are suspected of using drugs. Police are said to be investigating the incident. The Hungarian Bandy Federation condemned the unsportsmanlike behavior of the athletes and added that they accept this decision.

The world bandy championship among players under 19 is held in Sweden. The Russian team misses the competition due to sanctions.

At the end of February, many sports organizations, on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee, banned the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in tournaments. In some disciplines, such as motorsport, cycling, tennis and chess, the Russians continue to perform in a neutral status.
