Follow the leader! Napoli wins Salernitana and opens 12 points ahead of the Italian

For the 19th round of the Italian ChampionshipNapoli visited Salernitana this Saturday, at Stadio Arechi, and won by 2-0. The goals of the match were scored by Di Lorenzo and Osimhen.

With the result, coach Luciano Spaletti’s team isolated itself even more at the top of the competition. Napoli are 12 points clear of second-placed AC Milan. The home team, on the other hand, remained in 16th place and will fight against relegation for another season.

Both teams have matches in Serie A for the next few days. Salernitana will face Lecce on Friday (27), while Napoli returns to the field next Sunday (29) to take on Roma.

The game

Striker Osimhen was the one who most tried to open the scoring in the first stage. The Nigerian even scored for Napoli in the 34th minute of the game, but the flag marked offside and canceled the move.

It was only in stoppage time that the Neapolitans managed to take the lead. Zambo Anguissa countered with Mário Rui and crossed low into the area. Di Lorenzo received and kicked hard to score the first goal of the game. The ball still touched the crossbar, with no chances for goalkeeper Ochoa.

Early in the second half, Osimhen was rewarded for his insistence. Elmas finished from outside the area and the ball exploded on the crossbar. On the rebound, the striker took advantage of the opportunity and showed why he is the league’s top scorer, with 13 goals.

In the 59th minute, Osimhen nearly scored his second of the match. The Nigerian headed in the area and forced Ochoa to perform a miracle for Salernitana.

The home team almost managed to get back into the game in the 83rd minute. In Napoli’s defense, Piatek recovered the ball and finished unmarked at the foot of the crossbar.
