Barcelona beats Getafe and consolidates itself at the top of the Spanish Championship

O Barcelona beat Getafe 1-0 and consolidate themselves at the top of the Spanish Championship this Sunday afternoon. The goal of the match played at Camp Nou and valid for the 17th round was scored by Pedri.

With the victory, the Catalan team reaches 44 points, six ahead of Real Madrid, in second place, which can still reduce the distance for Barcelona if they win their game against Athletico Bilbao.

Getafe, in turn, struggles at the bottom of the table, with 17 points, the same score as Real Valladolid, third from last in the league.

Barcelona’s next commitment is this Wednesday, for the quarterfinals of the King’s Cup, against Real Sociedad, at 5 pm (Brasília time), at Camp Nou. Getafe, on the other hand, faces Real Betis, for the 18th round of the Spanish Championship, on Saturday, at 5 pm.

The game

In the first half, Barcelona had 70% possession of the ball and dominated the game’s offensive activities, but stopped at Getafe’s defense, which played back, only coming out on the counterattacks.

In the 34th minute, in Mayoral’s wrong exit, Gavi passed to Raphinha, who crossed low for Pedri, already inside the area, to push for the goal, opening the scoring at Camp Nou.

At 41 of the first stage, Getafe almost tied the match, with Mayoral, who invaded the area and came face to face with Ter Stegen. The goalkeeper, however, made a beautiful save and avoided the opponent’s goal.

In the second half, the tone of the game remained, with Barcelona dominating possession of the ball, but failing to convert their moves into goals and Getafe playing on the counterattacks.
