Rublev said that Ukrainian fans say bad words to him at the matches of the Australian Open
Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev complained about Ukrainian fans at the Australian Open. His words leads “Championship”.
During the second round match against Finn Emil Ruusuvuori, the referee asked Rublev about the fans with Ukrainian flags in the stands. “No, there are no problems with the flag at all. They just say bad words to me, ”said the Russian.
The meeting ended in four sets with the score 6:2, 6:4, 6:7, 6:3. Athletes spent 2 hours and 42 minutes on the court.
Earlier, the Australian Tennis Federation banned fans from bringing Russian and Belarusian flags to the stands due to complaints from Ukrainian spectators. The organizers recalled that initially fans from Russia and Belarus could bring flags, but they were forbidden to wave them so as not to interfere with other fans.
The Russians play at tournaments of the Association of Tennis Professionals and the Women’s Tennis Association, including the Australian Open, in a neutral status. Athletes are deprived of the flag and anthem.
