Daniel Alves, 39, was arrested in Spain on Friday after voluntarily reporting to a police station to answer for an alleged sexual assault.
The player “is detained” and being transferred to the courts for a statement to be made on the case. The episode took place against a woman in a Barcelona nightclub at the end of December, on the 30th.
On January 2, the Catalan police received a complaint from the victim, who said he had suffered unwanted touches from the player, police sources explained to AFP.
Daniel Alves responded to a police summons and went to the Les Corts police station, located near Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium. Afterwards, the athlete was arrested.
The player was on vacation in the city before returning to Pumas, from Mexico, after playing in the World Cup in Qatar with the Brazilian team, defeated in the quarterfinals.
In a message transmitted to the Antena 3 channel, on January 5, Daniel Alves denied the facts.
“I don’t know her, I’ve never seen her. I would like to deny everything”, he said about the complainant, adding that he was in the club “having fun”, but “without invading the space of others”.
