Bellator champion Usman Nurmagomedov to defend title against Benson Henderson

The next opponent of the Russian fighter of the mixed style (MMA) Usman Nurmagomedov in Bellator will be the American Benson Henderson. This is reported on the promotion page in Twitter.

Usman, who is the cousin of former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, will make his first title defense. The fight will take place on March 10 in San Jose as part of the quarterfinals of the Bellator Grand Prix in the lightweight division.

Earlier it became known that another Russian Alexander Shabliy will take part in the tournament. Also in San Jose will perform Azerbaijani Tofik Musaev, Brazilian Patrick Freire, Frenchman Mansour Barnawi and Americans AJ McKee and Sidney Outlaw. The prize fund of the Grand Prix will be one million dollars.

On November 19 last year, Nurmagomedov defeated Freire at Bellator 288 by unanimous decision to become the promotion’s lightweight champion. “I’m very happy. This is incredible, ”the athlete said after the fight.

In total, Usman, who is the cousin of the former champion of the Absolute Fighting Championship Khabib Nurmagomedov, won 16 victories in his professional career without suffering a single defeat. Henderson has 30 wins and 11 losses.
