Spartak midfielder Quincy Promes will miss the team gathering in the UAE due to the risk of extradition
The Dutch midfielder of Spartak Quincy Promes will miss the team gathering in the UAE due to problems with the law in his homeland. This was reported to Gazeta.ru by his lawyer Maxim Kalinov.
Kalinov said that there is a risk of extradition of the football player, because in 2021 the United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands signed an agreement on the mutual extradition of criminals. “Promes is a controversial football player, he is still being persecuted in his homeland for family squabbles, for participating in a criminal community and other illegal activities,” the lawyer explained, adding that the investigation into these cases is ongoing.
Earlier it became known that Promes was suspected in connection with the Surinamese drug dealer Pete Wortel. According to the Dutch prosecutor’s office, in 2019 the midfielder was involved in the transportation of a large consignment of cocaine belonging to Wortel. During the transportation, the drugs were stolen, after which the player paid 250 thousand euros to the Surinamese as compensation, fearing for his safety.
On February 25, 2021, Promes returned to Spartak. Prior to that, he played for the red and white from 2014 to 2018, becoming the champion of Russia and the owner of the country’s Super Cup with the team. In the current season of the Russian Premier League, the striker scored 14 goals and made six assists.
