Lula regrets that Bolsonaro has not recognized his electoral defeat

The Brazilian President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvaregretted this Wednesday that his predecessor, Jair Bolsonarohas not yet recognized its defeat in the October elections, nor have the thousands of Bolsonaristas who promoted the assaults on the headquarters of the three powers on Sunday.

“Unfortunately the president who left power on December 31 does not want to admit defeat. Even today I saw statements from him in which he continues without acknowledging defeat ”said the president in reference to a video that Bolsonaro published on his social networks this Wednesday, which he later deleted, with statements by a voter questioning the reliability of the ballot boxes.

In a speech he gave before a group of parliamentarians, the progressive leader stated that the attacks against the headquarters of Congress, the Presidency and the Supreme Court, perpetrated last Sunday by thousands of Bolsonaro supporters, can only be attributed to groups without notion of reality.

“I can only consider that it is a group of crazy people, a group of people with little sense of the ridiculous, because they have already filed appeals before the Justice, and the Justice not only reaffirmed the result of the polls as it condemned the party that questioned the elections to pay a large fine.” said.

In this sense, he said that he would not like to think that the events that occurred on Sunday are an attempt to “blow” of orchestrated state.

“I would not like to think that what happened was a coup. Maybe it was something minor, something promoted by a bunch of crackpots who didn’t accept that the elections are over and who don’t want to accept that the electronic ballot box is possibly the most perfect electoral model in the world.” said.

In the same way, he affirmed that in a few moments of the Brazilian republican history the results of the elections were questioned, especially since the country adopted the electronic voting system.

He stressed that he even called his opponents to congratulate them after the three presidential elections he lost (1989, 1994 and 1998).

Lula prevailed in the second round of the presidential elections by less than two percentage points against the far-right leader, who throughout the electoral campaign questioned the reliability of the electronic voting system of Brazil.

In his meeting with the parliamentarians, Lula thanked the Senate and the Lower House for having approved in record time the decree by which he appointed an inspector to assume security in Brasilia after the attacks on Sunday, apparently facilitated by omissions by some authorities .

“With this decree we are saying that we must punish those who do not want to respect the law and the democratic order that we achieved so difficultly in 1989 (with the approval of the Constitution after the military dictatorship),” said.
