Russian mixed martial arts fighter (MMA) Mairbek Taisumov will help Australian Alexander Volkanovski prepare for the fight against Islam Makhachev. A video from the Australian’s training camp was published on the Shock News Telegram channel.
“We’ve known Mairbeck for a long time, he’s a big guy and has the right fighting style. He helps us work out certain positions, bad scenarios, ”said Volkanovski’s coach Frank Hickman.

Earlier, Makhachev’s coach Javier Mendez expressed confidence that the Russian would defeat Volkanovski and remove him from first place in the ranking of the best fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), regardless of weight categories. At the same time, the specialist noted that Makhachev, most likely, would not be able to knock out an opponent, calling the upcoming fight a “five-round war”.
Makhachev and Volkanovski will fight at UFC 284. The lightweight fight will take place in Australia on the night of February 12, 2023. Thus, Volkanovski’s featherweight will change category, and Makhachev will defend the promotion’s lightweight championship belt for the first time.
In his professional career, Makhachev suffered one defeat and won 23 victories. Volkanovski has 25 wins and one loss.
