The Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti, was happy to be in the final of the Spanish Super Cup, but admitted after winning 4-3 on penalties (1-1 in the match) against Valencia this Wednesday in the semifinal that was “a party suffered.”
“It was a long-suffering, complicated game and we made it a little more complicated with an obvious mistake at the beginning of the second half,” said Ancelotti, at a press conference, referring to the goal from Valencia’s tie.
“We have found an opponent who has defended well. We’ve handled it pretty well. We are happy because it is evident that the team is not at its best”, stated the merengue coach.
“We are not at the top because there are players who have started recently. Little by little we have to find a better condition”, said Ancelotti, recalling how the World Cup in Qatar has disrupted the season.
“We have had 14 players involved in the World Cup so it is normal that after 20 days of the World Cup finishing, the level is not top”, explained the Madrid coach.
“Reaching the final is what we wanted to do. We usually play the finals well, let’s see what happens. We are going to fight hard to win the Super Cup, ”he insisted.
Ancelotti expressed his doubts that he could count on Lucas Vázquez on Sunday in the final, after he left the field injured, like Camavinga and Militao.
“Camavinga has had a blow to the knee, Lucas Vázquez has a sprained ankle and Militao had dizziness, but now he was fine. Lucas Vázquez seems the most serious. Camavinga and Militao I don’t think there will be a problem for Sunday, but Lucas Vázquez I don’t know”, explained Ancelotti. (D)
