The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Alex Contrerasannounced that the protests at the national level have generated a loss of more than S/300 million so far this year, with “a very negative focused impact on the protest areas.”
In this sense, he recalled that Puno is the region most affected by the conflict – it is worth noting that almost twenty deaths were registered due to clashes with the police -.
“The situation (in Puno) is complicated, taking into account that This region is the one with the highest levels of poverty, with a percentage of 43% of its population. It also registers S/500 million not executed”, he pointed out to RPP.

On the other hand, Contreras reported that, together with the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), they believe it is convenient to launch an executive table for the industrialization of lithium, in order to address one of the main claims of Puno citizens.
“We are going to work this week to establish strategies and take advantage of this important resource and use the potential that Puno has,” he pointed out.
