Spanish specialist Javier Hernandez Creus (Xavi) has been appointed head coach of FC Barcelona. A message about this appeared on the club’s page in Twitter.
The agreement is valid until the summer of 2024. Xavi is expected to come to Barcelona this weekend, and the club will hold a press conference on November 8.
Barcelona’s interest in Xavi became known on 28 October. To reach an agreement, the club needed to resolve the issue of releasing the coach from obligations to Al-Sadd and agree on the headquarters and salary for the specialist.
On the same day, Dutchman Ronald Koeman was fired from his post as head coach of Barcelona. This happened after the defeat of the Catalans in the 11th round of the Spanish Championship against Rayo Vallecano with a score of 0: 1.
Xavi has spent most of his career playing for Barcelona as a midfielder. He has eight victories in the Spanish championship and four Champions League cups. He played 505 games for the Catalans and scored 58 goals.
