Croatia beat Morocco 2-1 on Saturday to claim bronze at the World Cup in Qatar. However, not everyone was able to celebrate with dignity. The scandal was caused by Dejan Lovren, who began to insult journalists gathered in the mixed zone. It infuriated him that several members of the media were laughing. What exactly happened was described in the portal “Slobodna Dalmacija” by Frane Vulas, one of the men verbally attacked by the footballer. “Lovren made sure that the event celebrating Croatia’s great success was spoiled,” Vulas writes at the outset. “He began to insult me and my colleague, because we were laughing in euphoria and good humor when he did not stop to make a statement. At least me, a colleague for a completely different, unrelated reason,” we read.
Frane Vulas explained that the laughter of the journalists was caused by one of the national team’s players, Andrej Kramaric. The attacker also did not want to give an interview, but he explained himself to the journalists and did it in a funny way for them: “He said that Luka Modrić would come and ‘tell us everything,'” we read. It was then, for some unknown reason, that Lovren decided that he had been ridiculed and began to insult representatives of the native press.
According to Vulas, the player once again gave too much to the desire to fight “imaginary battles”. Of course, he meant the numerous statements of Lovren, who tried to plead for the Russians, excluded from international competition due to the armed attack of Vladimir Putin’s troops on Ukraine. “I’m sorry my friends are not at the World Cup. A Croatian journalist confessed that Lovren said “they should be ashamed”. “He called me stink, but he also told me something that hurt much more than the previous ones,” we read. Lovren was supposed to suggest that the journalist is not happy with the third place of the national team at the World Cup. Vulas admitted that he had “broken” at the time and told the player bluntly that “only he has nothing to be ashamed of”.
“I guess I’m a fool. After this (incident – editor’s note) I realized that Lovren has a problem with himself as usual … Dejan, nothing will spoil our day!” – summed up the journalist of the portal “Slobodna Dalmacija”.
The Croatians can enjoy bronze medals, and on Sunday we will meet the new world champion. France and Argentina will meet in the grand final. The match will start at 16:00.
