An employee of the National Railways of Ireland sued the employer. The man complained that he had to eat sandwiches and read newspapers all day, as he had too few work tasks, writes Money Control.
Dermot Alistair Mills believes he was punished with the loss of tasks after he raised the issue of the company’s reporting problems more than nine years ago. The man explained to the Labor Relations Commission that his work responsibilities were reduced to doing nothing after he disclosed a trade secret in 2014.
Mills added that he receives 121 thousand euros a year (8.3 million rubles) for going on long walks and reading newspapers. “I would say that if I have work tasks to do once a week, I am already happy,” Mills said.
According to him, he enters his office, turns on the computer, looks through the mail.
“There are no work-related letters, no messages from colleagues, no general mailing lists. I’m sitting, reading a newspaper and eating a sandwich. If I get an email around 10:30 am that needs a response, I reply to it. If a job appears, I do it, ”said the Irishman.
Irish Rail, for its part, acknowledged that Mills disclosed classified information in 2014, but denied that the company punished him for this.
