Jose Maria Martin Urbano was an extremely meritorious person for the Malaga basketball club. He worked there for many years and held various positions, from youth team manager, through assistant, to senior coach. He was the head coach of the first team at various times, the first time in the 1979/80 season, and the last time in the 1991/92 season.

During this match, Martin Urbano, who recently had health problems, appeared in the stands. He suffered from angina pectoris, for which he underwent surgery at El Ángel Hospital. Although he was doing better, he felt bad during the first quarter of Wednesday’s game. Doctors helped him in the hall, but resuscitation proved ineffective and the former coach died.

The club addressed the tragic incident through an official statement. In it, he said goodbye to Martin Urabno. “Basketball in Malaga has lost a legend, a man who has had a huge impact on our team. He coached our club several times and was a foundation for Málaga in its early stages. Unfortunately, he left. If it’s any consolation, he died in his second home.

Unicaja defeated Dijon and is the leader of the Champions League group

Despite the tragic events in the stands, the match was completed and the hosts won 88:68. Thanks to this, they stayed on the first place in the Champions League Group G table. Dijon is consistently in second position.
