“The Whale” is Brendan Fraser’s spectacular return to the Hollywood top – let us remind you that for the last few years the actor has been rather on the sidelines and has struggled with personal problems. After the September premiere of the drama directed by Darren Aronofsky, critics and reviewers have no doubts that Fraser deserves not only their words of appreciation, but also the most important acting awards. Suffice it to say that thanks to his performance “The Whale” got at the film festival
Fraser refuses to attend the Golden Globe Awards
It seems like a mere formality to officially confirm that Brendan Fraser will be nominated for the role of a retired, overweight English teacher who tries to reconnect with his daughter. It can also be expected that he will also be distinguished by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. However, the actor does not have much respect for this institution.
In a recent interview with the magazine, he announced that he did not intend to attend the award ceremony – even if he was nominated for the award:
That’s because I have more history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. And my mother didn’t raise a hypocrite. I can be described in many ways, but I am definitely not that person.
The case dates back several years, as Fraser told in an earlier interview with the same magazine. The actor then explained why he suddenly and unexpectedly withdrew from public life – accusations were also made against Philip Berk, former chairman of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Brendan Fraser said that in 2003 Berk attacked and groped him during lunch. A member of the HSPZ denied these reports and called it “an absolute fabrication”.
Fraser emphasizes that he cares a lot about the Oscar campaign:
I owe it to myself. I owe it to the filmmakers. I know I owe it to those fans who paid to come to see me and stood in line in the scorching sun – you know, that’s all. I owe it to my children – this is my chance.
