The Sociedad Dominicana de Cirugía Plástica, Reconstructiva y Estética, known as Sodocipre, elected plastic surgeon Asmín Aquino Rodríguez as its new president for the 2026-2028 term. The vote took place during the organization's Electoral Assembly, held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic.
The assembly was held at the Courtyard by Marriott Santo Domingo, in line with Sodocipre's statutory rules for choosing new leadership. Oversight of the process fell to Sodocipre's Electoral Commission, chaired by Dr. Rubén Carrasco and made up of Dr. Sergio Guzmán and Dr. Jean Paul Giudicelli Saba.
How the assembly unfolded
The session was opened by outgoing president Aniceto Rodríguez Delgado, who welcomed the members present. He said the electoral process mattered for guaranteeing the institution's continuity and its democratic functioning.
Notary lawyer Rússel Rodríguez attended the assembly to certify the validity and legality of both the meeting and the process behind it. Dr. José Luis Encarnación was also present, representing the Central Executive Commission of the Colegio Médico Dominicano, the Dominican Medical College, and addressed those attending.
The proceedings moved through a formal sequence: a check of the quorum, presentation of the electoral proposal, and a motion in support of the slate delivered by Dr. Rafael Mirabal, who is himself part of the elected board. Members then cast their votes, the ballots were counted, and the new leadership was formally proclaimed.
Aquino thanks his team
After being declared the winner, Aquino thanked those present for the trust placed in him and in his team. He then outlined to the assembly the main lines of work and projects he intends to pursue over the next two years at the head of Sodocipre.
The new board
Alongside Aquino as president, the incoming board is made up of Enriquillo Clime as secretary general, Rafael Estévez as secretary of Scientific and International Affairs, Rafael Mirabal as treasurer, Juan Carlos Suero as secretary of Press and Communication, and Cynthia Disla as secretary of Logistics and Events.
Doctors Yulissa Infante, Alenni Pérez and Enmanuel Pérez were elected as members-at-large.
Two further bodies were also constituted. The Ethics Committee will be chaired by Jean Paul Giudicelli, alongside Juan Bautista Lora and José Luis Acosta. The Prevention and Security Committee will be led by Ramón Morales, together with Disnalda Matos and Carlos Jiménez Miranda.
The assembly closed with remarks from Electoral Commission president Rubén Carrasco, who declared the process concluded once all the required formalities had been completed.
What Sodocipre does
Sodocipre is the professional body representing plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeons in the Dominican Republic. It works alongside the Colegio Médico Dominicano, the country's umbrella medical association covering all specialties, on issues of training, ethics and patient safety within the field.
Handover set for October congress
Although Saturday's assembly formalized the election of the new board, the outgoing leadership under Aniceto Rodríguez Delgado will remain in office until a separate handover ceremony and swearing-in of the incoming directors.
That transition is scheduled to take place during the XXIII Congreso Dominicano de Cirugía Plástica, the 23rd Dominican Plastic Surgery Congress, running from October 15 to 18, 2026, at the Hotel Paradisus Palma Real in Punta Cana, a resort area on the country's eastern coast. The congress is described as one of the main scientific gatherings for plastic surgery in the Dominican Republic.
With the election completed, Sodocipre said it was beginning a new institutional stage for the 2026-2028 period, maintaining its commitment to strengthening continuing medical education, patient safety, professional ethics, and the defense and development of plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery in the Dominican Republic.
