SAP chief declares Brazil leads Latin America AI adoption

SAP Latin America president Adriana Aroulho announced that Brazil is leading regional adoption of enterprise artificial intelligence at the SAP Now Tour Brasil conference in Sao Paulo on Thursday.

The major technology gathering drew more than 4,000 corporate leaders and technical experts to South America's economic capital, where representatives from over 120 client companies presented real-world applications of artificial intelligence across their commercial operations.

In an exclusive interview with news outlet CNN Money during the event, Aroulho stated that Brazil was positioned at the forefront of artificial intelligence implementation in Latin America. She noted that the Sao Paulo conference outpaced previous stops on the regional roadshow, which also included major events in Mexico and Argentina.

SAP SE is a German multinational software corporation headquartered in Walldorf, Baden-Wurttemberg, that develops enterprise software to manage business operations and customer relations. As one of the world's largest enterprise resource planning software vendors, the company hosts the annual SAP Now conference series across major international markets to showcase digital transformation, enterprise cloud adoption, and corporate automation developments to commercial clients.

Cloud migration and enterprise governance standards

To fully capitalize on artificial intelligence capabilities, Aroulho explained that organizations must complete an essential preliminary phase by migrating legacy IT systems to cloud computing infrastructure and eliminating accumulated technical debt. She pointed out that Brazilian businesses are currently far advanced in this cloud transition process compared to regional peers.

In computer engineering and corporate software management, technical debt refers to the implied future cost of maintaining outdated, customized, or fragmented legacy software systems rather than upgrading to standardized modern platforms. Migrating core enterprise resource planning systems to cloud infrastructure allows organizations to aggregate fragmented operational records into unified databases, providing the necessary data pipelines for artificial intelligence models to analyze company performance in real time.

Addressing operational deployment, Aroulho warned that corporate artificial intelligence cannot be treated as an isolated standalone experiment. She emphasized that enterprise artificial intelligence requires robust governance frameworks embedded directly into daily operational workflows, ensuring system security, operational reliability, adherence to commercial rules, and strict access controls governing which personnel can view specific data categories.

The executive described artificial intelligence as an exceptionally powerful engine, but stressed that its performance depends on the quality of the information supplied to it. She explained that algorithms require fully connected and harmonized corporate data enriched with contextual business intelligence to produce valuable operational outcomes.

The autonomous enterprise and investment returns

The central focus of the Sao Paulo conference centered on the concept of the autonomous enterprise. Under this operational model, routine business processes are executed automatically through an underlying layer of artificial intelligence agents, while human executives retain primary control over strategic planning and critical decision-making.

In enterprise software architecture, artificial intelligence agents differ from basic conversational tools by autonomously executing complex multi-step workflows across interconnected business functions, such as inventory management, supply chain tracking, and financial reconciliation. By handling repetitive operational tasks independently, these agent layers enable corporate personnel to focus on higher-level strategic priorities.

When questioned about ongoing obstacles facing Brazilian businesses, Aroulho acknowledged that achieving a clear return on investment remains a central concern for corporate leadership teams. She observed that while widespread experimentation with artificial intelligence is occurring across the market, only integrated software platforms capable of managing end-to-end business processes under established governance frameworks generate meaningful financial and operational returns.

Aroulho noted that the corporate sector is progressing along an industry maturity curve. Following an initial period characterized by exploratory trial projects, enterprise decision-makers are now systematically identifying where and how to deploy artificial intelligence technologies to achieve strategic balance and measurable efficiency improvements.

Industry sectors and global market standing

The executive highlighted Brazilian corporate creativity as a distinct competitive advantage in technological adaptation. She pointed to broad industry involvement at the Sao Paulo event, which featured active participation from major commercial sectors including pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, and energy production.

Aroulho's evaluation of Brazil's regional leadership was reinforced on stage by two guest speakers who serve as global executive members of the SAP Board. Addressing conference attendees, the international directors affirmed that Brazil occupies a prominent position in the global landscape of enterprise artificial intelligence adoption.

The event coverage was broadcast as part of CNN Cast, a specialized media partnership program between CNN Brasil and leading corporate brands designed to provide detailed journalistic coverage of key economic, industrial, and technological summits affecting business and society.
